How to improve data center efficiency with cabinet lifts
Downtime is expensive. A USA-built cabinet lift turns a four-person derack into a one-person move and pays back in months, not years.
In U.S. data center operations, downtime is measured in thousands of dollars a minute and AI halls are pushing 50 kW-plus per rack. Improving how people move iron is not optional. Cabinet lifts turn a labor bottleneck into a one-technician job.
RackLift® device lifts and cabinet movers are specified for hyperscale, enterprise, colo, and edge sites: faster installs, zero-downtime relocations, and a crew of one in a 42-inch aisle.
Where the time goes
Manual racking of a 300–650 lb switch often takes 30–60 minutes and a second pair of hands. A 600RS changes that: 24″ of insertion, 360° rotation, one operator. A cabinet move that used to mean four technicians and a full derack becomes a strap-and-crank on the RL3500S or a switch-up on the RL5000S.
What the numbers look like
- Install time per server: about 45 minutes by hand versus about 15 minutes with a RackLift® device lift.
- Relocation downtime: hours of derack versus no derack when the cabinet moves loaded.
- Labor per rack: three to five people versus one technician.
- Payback: typically a few months on labor and avoided injury; not a five-year science project.
These are U.S. hall numbers, not warehouse estimates. Spec the lift against the aisle you actually run.
